Hyundai’s new Genesis luxury arm has unveiled its secret program for appealing to the youths through mad tight wheel gap, bro. That or there was a misunderstanding when someone told the engineers to look into “carbon offsets” as well.

This is most likely an upcoming 400hp, 3.3L TTV6 replacement for the 420hp, 5.0L V8 equipped Genesis G80 Sedan (formerly known as the Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0). The big deal being that this version will offer AWD in the US (though AWD is available on the 2015 Genesis Sedan 5.0 in Canada), plus improved emissions and fuel economy.

It’s also a notable engine because it will likely fall into the upcoming 3-series fighting Genesis G70 Sedan, the fast approaching Kia GT sports sedan, and of course the supposed refresh of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. All of which are slated to arrive towards the end of next year (but not necessarily with this engine available upon introductions).

**Note that it is more likely that the vehicle is heavily weighted for endurance testing rather than being a sick factory suspension setting.**

It’s looking that way. Though I think they are updating the engine. The Tau was enlarged to 5.5L for limousine use and Hyundai seemed to really like working with a supercharger on it. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of tuner shows with Hyundai backing them on their twin-turbo setups for the Tau. I do think we could see a 550 hp, no electric motor assisted Hyundai by the end of the decade if things go well between the N brand, the new Ioniq/Niro/Hybrid range, and low fuel prices.

That said, it’s pretty unlikely since this 3.3T engine paired with electric motors could do all the same things and wouldnt need to depend on the receptiom of other brand segments in order to make a case for having the offering. We are in a huge transition period for the auto industry so who knows.

Well they have sold over 17,000 in the US so far this year. That’s almost 3x the sales of the Azera and Cadenza combined (both haven’t even hit 3,000 units YTD). BMW 5-Series is over 20,000 I believe and E-Class is over 22,000. However, the Chrysler 300 and Nissan Maxima have sold over 30,000 units.

So it is selling ridiculously well for an upmarket Korean car since Azera, Cadenza, K900, and Equus combined aren’t even hitting half of the Genesis Sedan sells. Compared to luxury cars, it would be around the 3rd best selling RWD based executive sedan (but it’s also $15,000 cheaper). Compared t upmarket sedans like the Avalon, 300, Taurus, Impala, etc...it’s at the bottom end but is doing well considering it costs about $5,000 MORE than competitors in that space.

Honestly, Hyundai found a niche and it’s working out very well.

Or they’re moving upmarket and there's a dead fat Albanian in the trunk.

I swear it’s the engine options. People (Americans) think luxury sedans should have big engine options. I think it's easy for them to justify the price if they're getting more engine. Whether they need it is a different story

Slap some kidney grills on the front and that's the next 6GC from BMW. Though the butt looks more Audi. I think Genesis is going to be a hit.

I take it back, we did get them down under but sales have been rather rough. less than 600 sold a year. Explains why I haven’t seen one yet.
